Nic Manshon

Hi, I’m Nic Manshon. Creativity, for me, started back when I was drawing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and entering Mother’s Day competitions for KTV. I always loved art as a kid and did it as a subject throughout my schooling career.  If I were to be totally honest, I never saw a career in creativity in high school, even though art was my highest marked subject.  Hence, I went to study personal training straight after high school and thereafter worked for Virgin Active for a while. Soon enough I realized that it wasn’t for me. Nonetheless, I believe nothing is lost with learning. After having these feelings to change my career, I started exploring creativity again. That was a good choice! The journey started out at CPUT, studying industrial design and serving at a local church, heading up the media department. After that, I got a scholarship for digital filmmaking at SAE. I never received a scholarship before so I was super stoked to do the course, not rea

Ivan Zhurba ~ The One Backpack

FutureNow - What is your background, where did your creativity start?

My name is Ivan Zhurba, I work as an industrial designer for 4 years, before that I worked as an architect for two years, I dedicate a lot of time to a motorcycle - to one of my best friends. Working as an architect, I realized that any space wont be viable if there is no object in it. Since then, I have gradually moved into the industrial design. After I published the portfolio, CEO of Kwambio was interested in me, and suggested me to become part of a revolutionary project in the field of industrial design, which gave a rise to my product - The One Backpack

FutureNow - What inspired you to design and create this unique backpack?

Our project is my vision of a modern backpack, Breaking the template. All backpacks today are stamped according to one model, they are patterned and do not have a distinctive feature. In my project, a priority is given to aesthetics, these rough lines convey the character of the most modern architecture. Of course, the functionality, today on backpacks can already travel, with them to swim, and upload photos to them, but I believe that you should not forget about the basic function of the backpack, the anticipation and comfortable storage of the things you need, safety.

FutureNow - What are the pros and cons of creating a product from scratch?

The best thing is that you are limited only by your imagination, freedom of creativity. But once you are finished you have to organize manufacturing, this is the most difficult part, produce a product that will look like your design. I think we did it in a hundred percent, thats why it looks so futuristic and non traditional. Also we have used 3D Printing technology that helped us to make prototype and our original copper plated pullers, so we are not using YKK standard pullers, we have designed and created our own.

FutureNow - What does the future hold for The One Backpack?

We are going to expand our collection of color shells, so you can customize your color through our iPhone App color palette. Also now we have started collaboration with different popular artists that are going to make their own original paintings on our The One Backpack shells, so owner of backpack will be available to wear an art on their back.

FutureNow - Advice for Creators around the world?

I will advice creators to think in a critically different way to design object, don't try to find inspiration in others, just start from the scratch and find new ideas in your mind. Also living in 21 century we can use new technologies that can help you to manufacture prototype, don't be scared of new technology make them friend of yours, because this will help you to design a very new shapes, new forms, and become a revolutionary in industrial design.
