Crisco BL

My name is Sabelo Crisco Dlamini better known as Crisco BL. I’m an illustrator based in Durban. I’ve been illustrating for about a year & unlike other digital illustrators, I use my phone instead of a laptop to create my paintings.
My art is based on Depression, Anxiety & Anti Self Harm. The reason as to why I base my illustrations around these things is because I don’t think they are spoken of as much as they should be nor are they taken seriously. My illustrations or a form of self-reflection, things that I’ve gone through myself. I feel that in doing this, people can relate to my art as much as I do.
A lot of teenagers these days go through the above mentioned and don’t have the platform to talk about it or express it. I want to make art that makes people feel like they’re not alone and that there are ways to deal with their pain.
You’ve probably noticed that I use a lot of yellow as a background in all my art. Yellow is a colour that is associated with happiness. I use the c…

Nic Manshon

Hi, I’m Nic Manshon.

Creativity, for me, started back when I was drawing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and entering Mother’s Day competitions for KTV. I always loved art as a kid and did it as a subject throughout my schooling career.

If I were to be totally honest, I never saw a career in creativity in high school, even though art was my highest marked subject.

Hence, I went to study personal training straight after high school and thereafter worked for Virgin Active for a while. Soon enough I realized that it wasn’t for me. Nonetheless, I believe nothing is lost with learning.

After having these feelings to change my career, I started exploring creativity again. That was a good choice!

The journey started out at CPUT, studying industrial design and serving at a local church, heading up the media department. After that, I got a scholarship for digital filmmaking at SAE. I never received a scholarship before so I was super stoked to do the course, not realizing what the future may hold.

I don’t want to over-philosophize my journey but when you on the right path things just work out. Not unsimilar to Forest Gump, some people plan their life while others live their lives. Living for me is taking an opportunity when you get one and then figuring it out along the way. This certainly does not mean I don’t plan but that I am always open to opportunity.

I think this is why my hashtag on my YouTube Cover page is #ExploreMore. This represents my life and how I approach creativity.

I dabble in a little bit of everything, from filming to editing, vlogging, photography, design, fashion and, more recently, music production. When it comes to creativity, I’m like a kid in a candy store. That’s why I have mad respect for everyone that puts themselves out there. It ain’t easy!

These are a few keys I learned from a multi-billionaire philanthropist that we had the privilege of filming in 2015:

Enthusiasm: Talk about your vision. You don’t have to disclose your whole plan but get feedback. It’s a two-way conversation of you sharing ideas and receiving ideas.

Action: Simply DO WHAT YOU SAY.

Collaboration: Be open to work with people. #Relationships are key. You can’t do it on your own.

Lastly, this was not part of the 3 keys but it’s so important, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF but #StayHumble. Thanks Kendrick ☺
