Crisco BL

My name is Sabelo Crisco Dlamini better known as Crisco BL. I’m an illustrator based in Durban. I’ve been illustrating for about a year & unlike other digital illustrators, I use my phone instead of a laptop to create my paintings.
My art is based on Depression, Anxiety & Anti Self Harm. The reason as to why I base my illustrations around these things is because I don’t think they are spoken of as much as they should be nor are they taken seriously. My illustrations or a form of self-reflection, things that I’ve gone through myself. I feel that in doing this, people can relate to my art as much as I do.
A lot of teenagers these days go through the above mentioned and don’t have the platform to talk about it or express it. I want to make art that makes people feel like they’re not alone and that there are ways to deal with their pain.
You’ve probably noticed that I use a lot of yellow as a background in all my art. Yellow is a colour that is associated with happiness. I use the c…

Hitting your thirties in Cape Town is a scary yet magical experience, new city ,new friends. You go through so many changes, your interests and activities evolve. Its beauty captivated me from the start, WorldCUP 2010, my trusty camera-phone in hand, snapping pictures of everything colourful.

The vibe that Cape Town brings does something to you. But then the party dies down, you realise there's more to this place, you start to focus on the finer details, well at least I did, I knew I had an interest in photography, got hold of my sister's Canon 350D and lost all control. I was taking pictures of everything, mainly her rabbit @rabbi_eden, yea the rabbit has an Instagram profile. Spent many days at the @Leafapparel studios watching them focus on detail. I wanted to capture what they were putting so much energy into, playing with weird and unconventional angles but there's only so much you can capture on the little Canon. I decided to kick this new obsession into overdrive; by some series of miracles I ended up with a monster Canon 5D. I started taking photos everyday, of anyone that wanted to.

A good friend asked me to take pictures for her blog at the SAMFW, I felt like I was thrown into the deep end, with all these long lenses and giant stabilizing tripods and stuff. It was an experience to say the least. Eventually everyone was surprisingly friendly and helpful when they realised It was my first time in the pit, but that's Cape Town for you, a mixing bowl of friendly people. Everyone around me wanted me to better myself,I watched my photos change. My "style" started to show a little more; when people start paying you for pictures you tend to pay a lot more attention to detail, you try to make every click worthy. My friends in the industry taught me everything I know. I'm grateful for that.

I am Zachariah Schrueder, a keen-eyed fashion photographer.
